Meet The Blue Huron - Our Lake Huron Waterfront Cottage

After a long winter’s work, this little cottage is ready for the summer season of renters. Although there are still a few things left to do and finalize, the cottage got its first rental this past weekend and we must say it was a success! We want to share with you a few progress shots of how the cottage is coming along. In a few short weeks the cottage will be completely finished and styled…we can’t wait to share the final before and after pictures with you!

The Blue Huron just seemed like the perfect name for this cottage. Not only is it named after the blue exterior…it’s also named after the beautiful crystal blue waters of Lake Huron which is just steps away from the cottage! This little blue cottage set on a private 1.6 acre property is located on the shoreline of the lake on the Bruce Peninsula.

We love it because it's in such a centrally located area so it's convenient to explore all the Bruce has to offer - hiking the bruce trail, paddling the crystal clear waters, watching the amazing sunset over a campfire...It's also located just a few minutes from the famed Grotto in Tobermory!

The Blue Huron is a two level cottage with an amazing view on the main floor. The main living area is open concept with 12’ wide patio doors letting in lots of natural light!

There are 3 bedrooms on the main floor and 2 bedrooms on the lower level walk out. We repurposed some of the existing furniture as it worked so well with the space and mixed it with some new pieces and items found at antique markets.

These retro bunkbeds gives us major ’80 vibes.

The artwork found around the cottage is composed of original pieces from the 1970’s found in the cottage, family heirlooms and a few newly purchased pieces from antique stores.

One of the bedrooms on the main floor with a glimpse of the custom designed fireplace made of rocks found and gathered on the property! To the left is a vintage print found at an antique market and framed in a navy blue wood frame.

The beams ended up getting painted white to let the beautiful wood in the ceiling get its much deserved attention.

Another bedroom on the main floor with antique artwork above the bed and some interesting hats hung above the dresser.

Custom built bunk beds in one of the lower level bedrooms.

The extra beds downstairs are perfect for renters with a big family!

The small kitchen on the main floor is well equipped with anything renters might need to prepare for a meal - even a vintage orange Le Creuset!

Another shot of the kitchen with a piece of vintage artwork hung above the sink.

The bathroom on the main floor. A large custom mirror was designed for this bathroom to make it feel more open and spacious.

Even though there are still a few things left to do to complete this little blue cottage, it has come a long way since we first bought it! We can't wait to finish up the cottage and show you all the before and afters in more detail. Make sure to follow The Blue Huron's Instagram page if you want to stay up to date on what is happening at the cottage and for more breathtaking views of Lake Huron!
